BASICS

The orientation of Filipinos regarding family life is rooted on different aspect of their lives. This can be traced on their religion which is predominantly Catholic, on their personal beliefs and family orientation. One good thing about Filipinos is that they are regarded as one having a distinct family ties in Asia and in the whole world which is a good thing of us. In olden times, our family life is governed by strict rules, which the father is considered as the pillar of the house and the mother as the light of the house. The children during those times is full of respect to their parent as well as the parents to their children.

As everyone claim and as an error free reason, time changes everything and so is our concept regarding family. In our modern times, poverty plays an important role in the dissolution of the basic unit of our community. With the rise of technologies such as televisions, computers and the like, the time for a happy family is lessen and may even reach to the point of being affected as in the case of pornographic media. This media deteriorates our family as it is the main reason why we have incestuous rapes. When poverty has inflicted our family, there is no way for the parents to have their living comfortable but to work and resulting to decrease quality time for their children. This scenario will result to miscommunication among family members.

I am born to a family whose center is God. A family which is of strength even though confronted with so much problems. With 28 years of marriage, my parents is still happy with their relationships. We are only two in our family that is why everything is provided for us by our parents. And I think that it is the main reason why we grew up to be fine citizens of our community. It is also important for the parent to serve as a good example for their children.

If the basic unit of our nation is good, there is no way we can live in a nation full of chaos. It is better if change our modern orientation and lets go back to the principles which our elderly have thought us. It is the only way for us to survive as a family and ultimately as a nation.
